Next Stop: Duel in the Desert

I know… we are all bummed about how the season is turning out. However, there is one opportunity for redemption! If ASU can beat U of A this weekend the season won’t be so bad after all. That is why all you Sun Devil fans need to be in full ASU spirit and of course, have high hopes. Oregon defeated the Wildcats last weekend and this should give us all confidence that we will knock them down again!
Since this is going to be the rowdiest game of the season, we are going to need the most intense fan around to represent Sun Devil nation. Sun Devil Nation Dominated LA!

Another Sun Devil loss was put in the books Saturday, but ASU fans proved yet again that they are hardcore no matter how the team fares on the field. Maroon and Gold filled the stands. I was so proud to see how many Sun Devil supporters made the trip from AZ!
One of those ultimate fans was Kevin McKee. Kevin won a trip to the game from AT&T and got flown to Los Angeles and put up in a hotel!

Men’s Basketball is Going to Need a Grand Puba!

After another Sun Devil loss to Saturday night’s football game against Oregon, you may be feeling down. But here’s some news to cheer you up! The ASU Men’s basketball season has begun and they’re off to a winning start. The Sun Devils dominated Western Illinois Friday night with an 87- 35 win. The season continues tonight with the NIT Season Tipp- Off against Texas State at Wells Fargo Arena.

Devils Rose Bowl Bound!

The Sun Devils football team will hit the road for the final time this season. They are taking a trip to the Rose Bowl to take on PAC- 10 competitor UCLA. Coach Erickson said today in a press conference that he still doesn’t know who the starting Quarterback will be on Saturday. “I’m not sure yet. I’m not sure how healthy either Danny [Sullivan] or Brock [Osweiler are],” he said. And as for Samson Szakacsy, Erickson said, “The thing about him is that he’s very accurate. He made some good throws in that game. We’ll just wait and see; I haven’t decided what we’re going to do yet.” He also mentioned that Szakaczy tends to get sore when he throws for long periods of time. It will be interesting to see who will be leading the Devils come Saturday.
While we may not know who the starting QB is, we do know one person who will be dominating Sun Devil nation Saturday night. That of course is Kevin, McKee. Kevin sent the most Sparky Grams on attsparkycentral.com and is heading to the game courtesy of AT&T! The game is in Pasadena, California at the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is home of UCLA football and the New Year’s Tournament of Roses Football game. It has also hosted five Super Bowl games and even Olympic soccer matches. I’m sure Kevin is going to have an incredible time representing ASU at this historic venue. Watch out for pics of Kevin’s trip to the game next week!

Brock in vs Oregon

It’s official. Danny Sullivan is out as the starting QB and Brock Osweiler is in.
Sullivan, out with a right biceps injury, has been unable to practice for the past two days. Osweiler is the fourth true freshman to start for ASU.
Coach Dennis Erickson said Sullivan may play if his condition improves.

Who Has What it Takes to be the Grand Puba for the 2009 Duel in the Desert?

The Sun Devils has a rough game against USC, but you wouldn’t have known it from the excitement of the Grand Puba of the game, Corey Driggs. Corey has definitely set the bar high for all future Grand Pubas. He was actually marching through the stands waving his scepter to get the crowd going. Corey is an alumnus of Arizona State and now lives in Tucson. Needless to say, Corey cannot stand the U of A Wildcats and even though we were playing USC, he showed up in a “Fork U of A” t- shirt. Plus, Corey has a stuffed toy cat that is battered and hanging from a shredded U of A flag that he brings to every single ASU football game. Corey is very passionate about being a Sun Devil!
The next Grand Puba is going to have to try to outdo Corey though, because November 28th is the Duel in the Desert and U of A is going down! This is undoubtedly the craziest game of the year for ASU because we are taking on our Arizona rival! If you think you have what it takes to represent Arizona State as the Grand Puba enter now!! The team is hitting the road for a couple of weeks with their first stop in Oregon against the Ducks. On November 21st they will be at the Rose Bowl to take down UCLA Bruins and guess what! Sparky Central was here!

ASU games are great, but the fun starts long, long before kickoff. For some people, it starts Monday morning, for others, it starts 2-5 hours before game time on Saturday.
Nick Bastian is one of those people, and the Sparky Central team has been RailGating with him for the past three weeks.
Every week, Bastian and his trusty sidekick Dean Ouellette meet up with long-time friends for a few hours of suds, great good and even better conversation before heading to their season-ticket holder’s perch.
The food is tasty, the drinks and cold and the fun is immense. Look for pictures and video from the USC/ASU tailgate this week.
